There are few things in this world like the relaxing and comforting feel of falling into bed. After a long day your bed is calling to you, but for those who have bed bugs bedtime can seem like a nightmare. Bed bugs, a very small bug that feeds on organic matter which includes humans and animals, can quickly turn into an infestation. If an infestation occurs it could take a professional bed bug exterminator to eradicate these pesky bugs.

If you’re wondering how will you know you have bed bugs then there are a few things you should keep in mind. Bed bugs are very small and can be extremely hard to spot. They tend to come out only when you or others are sleeping. Without seeing them there are a few signs you can look for to see if you may have an infestation.

The first sign to look for are small black spots on your mattress and box springs. These dark spots are the waste of the bed bugs. Make sure to pull back the seams around your mattress to check for these spots, as bed bugs like to hide in these locations. Another spot to look for on your mattress is a red spot. These spots will be around the area where you sleep, and are in fact tiny drops of blood from the bed bugs bite.

Remember bed bugs can infest other furniture in the home as well so check for these spots elsewhere in your home. You can look at your physical body for evidence of bed bugs. The bites are similar to flea bites, and you will most likely notice them before anything else. They will be itchy, and can be rather annoying to deal with. The bed bugs feed while you are sleeping.

The only full proof way to prove that you have bed bugs is to catch a few and show them to an exterminator. You can use double sided tape to catch a few. Just place the tape down in an area where you expect bed bugs and leave it over night or for a few days. Once you see a few small black bugs on the tape take it to your exterminator to find out if they are indeed bed bugs.
