1. Vacuum daily.

Vacuuming not only eliminate bed bugs but also removes dirt that acts as a shelter. Ensure that you vacuum every area thoroughly. Turn box springs, furniture and mattresses in all directions. As you vacuum, concentrate on seams, folds and creases. Also vacuum the floors baseboards, furniture and any other potential hiding place for bed bugs. After you are through, empty your vacuums cleaner.

2. Use insecticide to target the hiding places.

Bedbugs enjoy staying in dark and squeezed areas. Spread your insecticide on these places. Some of the best hiding places for bed bugs include:

  • Cracks in head boards and bed frames.
  • Underneath couches, chairs, dust covers and beds
  • In curtain folds
  • edges of carpets
  • Behind baseboards

3. Laundering your bed linens using hot water.

These insects are very sensitive to extremely hot conditions. Clean all the linens in the using hot water. Alternatively clean your linen in the hot temperatures then put them into a hot drier for at least 20 minutes. This should include sheets, pillowcases, pillows, blankets and other bedding materials. You can also do steam cleaning.

4. Seal all the holes and crevices.

These are the potential hiding places for bedbugs. Inspect the entire house and seal up all the holes and crevices. For damaged furniture consult a furniture expert and ensure that it is repaired. Tighten all the gadgets that may provide hiding places to bedbugs. This should include all the cans and bottles that are in your house.
